WATERFRONT HOMES

Chernoff Thompson Architects has designed many private waterfront homes. Each of these homes is a unique response to the needs of the owner and the site.

This two storey waterfront home has a rugged west coast theme. The home is designed to maximize the view from every room and to provide a variety of outdoor balconies, decks and terraces, all with ocean views.

This waterfront cottage on South Pender Island was designed as a french country style home. Construction of the entire house is of concrete filled foam blocks for a very well insulated home.

This 279 sm private home on the water in Port Moody is designed for maximum benefit from sun and view, while still providing excellent privacy for both the owners and neighbours.

A craftsman style home on a steep wooded rocky site facing onto Secret Cove. The house overlooks its protected moorage. The high ceiling living/dining/kitchen space cantilevers into the view and features a large "Lodge" type fireplace. The master suite has an exercise area in the ensuite. The home has a loft and guest room for visitors. A large utility room provides ample workspace for a variety of projects.

This is a private home on a steeply sloping rock faced waterfront lot at the entrance to Secret Cove. The house has an open plan with a large kitchen/dining/living room that has extensive glazing to the south and west sides. Care was taken in siting the house to preserve as many trees as possible. The house has a large covered deck on the south, and terraced decks on the west facing the water and view.

A large single family home on a prominent waterfront site at Miller Point on Bowen Island. The site setbacks and slope provided a very small difficult buildable area with awkward grade access. This was overcome by careful selective blasting, and innovative siting of the house with a patio to the south west over and underground garden storage room. The home is of a "seaside" character combining influences from historic Bowen Island homes and New England seaside homes. The house totals over 557 sm of built area, of which over 418 sm is living space and the remainder is garage, storage, and service.

This is a small "retirement" home on an east facing high bluff lakeside lot. With careful placement it was possible to provide lake views in 3 directions; north, east and south. The house has a relaxed easy-care open plan with a large kitchen and deck for easy entertaining of friends and relatives. Upstairs has a master bedroom suite with a large outdoor screened porch. The lower floor has guest bedrooms and a recreation room.
